Pentatonic Major Scale Guitar Patterns

The pentatonic scale is the most used and simple guitar scales and it contains 5 notes (penta = 5).

This post will present only the positions for the G major pentatonic scale. The other corresponding scales (ex. E, F, A, B etc.) can be obtained by translating these patterns left or right on the the guitar fretboard.

The G major pentatonic scale contains the same notes as E minor pentatonic scale, but with different roots.

There are 5 positions or patterns on the guitar fretboard for the G major pentatonic scale.

The notes marked with green color in images are the root notes of the scale.
