The beginner position for B chord is the following:

  • first (index) finger on string 1 – fret 2
  • second (middle) finger on string 4 – fret 4
  • third (ring) finger on string 3 – fret 4
  • fourth (pinky) finger on string 2 – fret 4

For this chord position only the first four strings are played.

This chord can be played as barre chord as follows:

  • first (index) finger on string 1 and 5 (barre on the first 5 strings) – fret 2
  • second (middle) finger on string 4 – fret 4
  • third (ring) finger on string 3 – fret 4
  • fourth (pinky) finger on string 2 – fret 4

In this case the string 6 in NOT played.

Another simple to play variation of this chord is B7 chord with the following position:

  • first (index) finger on string 4 – fret 2
  • third (ring) finger on string 2 – fret 2

This is very useful especially for beginners who encounter difficulties in playing B barre chord.
